Croatian People's Party (HNS) leader Ivan Vrdoljak said on Sunday that he was not particularly worried that the coalition government could be destabilised by the case of Croatian Democratic Union (HDZ) member Darko Milinovic, saying that "every couple of months destabilisation and possible early elections are in the air" and adding that destabilising the political system could be expensive and unnecessary as well as that his party was prepared for such a scenario and would have something to show.
Asked by reporters if he feared that the ruling coalition might become unstable and what his party's strategy would be if Lika-Senj County head Darko Milinovic was expelled from the HDZ and returned to the parliament to retake his seat there, Vrdoljak said that he was not that much concerned.
The HNS leader went on to say that his party had been focused on the curricular reform for the past year.
- The HNS does not concern itself with relations in the SDP, Bridge or the HDZ; you should put that question to the HDZ leader and prime minister. Last Friday the HNS formed a team for parliamentary elections, not because we are saying that they will be held in a month's time but because we want to be ready to go before voters, with the result that we are delivering... and to win the best possible result - Vrdoljak told reporters after addressing them on the issue of the curricular reform, to be launched on Monday, September 3.
Responding to a reporter's remark that the curricular reform would be jeopardised should a crisis happen in the ruling coalition or if the parliamentary majority dwindled to 76 or even 75 votes, Vrdoljak said that he did not expect that anyone would allow the reform to be threatened after its launch.
- I really expect all of us, you, and the entire public not to allow anyone to jeopardise the reform and I expect all political camps to want to see the reform carried out - he said.
