HNB: Croatia's 2019 current and capital account surplus reaches 5% of GDP

Croatia recorded a current account and capital account surplus of €2.7 billion in 2019, which accounts for 5% of GDP, as against 3.3% in 2018, according to figures released by the Croatian National Bank.

The current account surplus amounted to €1.57 billion last year, which was 2.9% of GDP, as against 1.9% of GDP in 2018. This surplus increased by 589 million (or by 60%) from 2018.

Croatia thus registered a surplus in the current account for the sixth consecutive year. However, the prospects for 2020 are blurred by the ongoing crisis caused by the coronavirus pandemic.
