The ruling Croatian Democratic Union (HDZ) strongly supported ratification of the two agreements.
"It is high time the extradition agreement was adopted. It's unbelievable that until now we have followed a document dating from 1901 which does not cover modern crimes nor is it aligned with contemporary law," HDZ MP Irena Petrijevcanin Vuksanovic said.
Vesna Pusic of the opposition Civic Liberal Alliance (GLAS) said that neither document would bring about any "dramatic changes", but noted that their ratification would improve the investment climate, both for US companies in Croatia and vice versa, because they would standardise rules.
Josip Salapic, state secretary at the Ministry of Justice, said that the two agreements had been negotiated for 11 years, adding that the negotiations had been completed in November 2019 and the two documents signed in December.
