EU adopted a package of measures for no-deal Brexit

The Council of the EU has decided that the UK can keep using EU subsidies for funding projects that have been contracted before Brexit, even in the 'no-deal' scenario. The Council has adopted a package of measures in order to foresee all of the scenarios related to financing and finalization of the EU budget for 2019.

The main task of the package was to mitigate financing of the key realms such as agriculture and research. The European Parliament has adopted that decision during the final plenary session in April of 2019.

- The no-deal scenario should have zero impact on the main task that EU27 share of honoring financial obligations that the Member States have undertaken – said Finnish Finance Minister Mika Lintila, who is currently presiding over the Council.

According to the agreed provisions, the United Kingdom should confirm that will honor its financial obligation of contributing to the EU budget for 2019. The framework that would release the UK from such commitment is possible only under the condition that Britain refrains from paying it debt, or if during auditing there have been spotted key issues.

The main task of this package is to preserve financing of the EU budget for 2019 regardless of the fact who will eventually replace Theresa May as head of state.
